XXXIX. Things I Would Kill For.

Things I would kill for:

World peace.

Five more minutes in a dream already breaking free.

Someone to say Charlene, you're doing enough.

Good lighting in every bathroom I've ever cried in.

A plate of my grandmother's food, still hot.

A refund for every apology

paid into the wrong account.

To not feel

this way.

The silver CD radio from when I was eight.

Track four always skipping beat...

My whole world in discs.

The ability to slip out a back door and be already home.

For my mother to rest.

Less ambition.

No—

more.

No.

Less.

To stop doing the math—

how long do any of us have left?

To stop doing the math.

World peace.

I would burn down something soft for this.

Darken a rainbow.

Teach a choir silence.

I would. I'd do it.

For world peace.

For what it’s worth,

-Charlene Iris

One thought at a time.

One truth at a time.

Because some epiphanies stay with you.
